Archaeological Reserve kept the remains of an ancient Roman city Abritus. The reserve has a size of one thousand acres and is located near Razgrad. The area has several stages in its development. Originally Abritus represented a Roman military camp, founded in I century BC. After expansion becomes the largest city in Lower Moesia, these are the lands of present-day northern Bulgaria. In the later the town became a major Christian center. Then it was destroyed by the Slavs in the VI century, several centuries later at the village was built Bulgarian fortress. In the reserve to see the ruins of a residential complex consisting of a large courtyard building, several rooms used for shops and outbuildings.
Today the reserve is built archaeological museum, where in five exhibition halls are artifacts found during excavations in the area. They aim to make us acquainted with the progress of human society. In Abritus reserve is discovered and the largest in Bulgaria treasure of gold coins, which is presented to visitors to the museum in the form of photographs. In the park of the museum is located Lapidariy which are about 70 epigraphic monuments divided into several categories: dedication, tombstones and architectural. Some of them are representatives of the Roman era. Signs in several languages of the tombstones are further evidence that these lands were inhabited by people, representatives of several different nationalities, Romans, Bulgarians, Turks. Archaeological Reserve is one of the best governed and restored antique places in our country. It is part of the Hundred National Tourist Sites of Bulgaria.
