In 1892 he was able to realize the idea of creating a National Museum and in it there are three divisions: ethnographic, numismatic and starovekoven. Only 14 years after the establishment of the National Museum in 1906 due to significant increase in the ethnographic collections of his department, the idea of Professor Ivan Shishmanov (Minister of Education at that time) in Sofia has created the first ethnographic museum in the country - National Ethnographic Museum. The work involves a specialist - art historians, ethnographers, artists, historians and folklorists, all united by the idea to preserve and showcase the wealth of cultural and ethnographic heritage of our nation. During World War II, the museum successfully organized exhibitions of their exposures in Geneva, London, Paris, Rome, Helsinki and even New York. After 1947, BAS was created Narodouka Institute, which two years later merged with the National Ethnographic Museum and so was founded the Ethnographic Institute and Museum of the Academy of Sciences.
