Historical Museum - Perushtitsa

Perushtitsa is a city located in the foothills of the Rhodope Mountains, located about 20 km from Plovdiv. The ancient town is the successor of the Slavs is named after the Slavic god Perun, who is considered the supreme god. According to the Christian mythology, he was one of most powerful gods, protector of warriors and leader of troops in battle. Apart from its ancient roots Perushtitsa is famous for its brave inhabitants. During the April uprising, locals are taken as mass participation and even fought with primitive weapons. The city before the uprising was about 2000 inhabitants, then it remained until 150. Perushtitsa City has a rich history contained in the Historical Museum. It was founded in 1955. Host of the museum is one-storey building, lined with marble, which is representative of modern architecture. The museum has four exhibition halls, which presented historical heritage of ancient Perushtitsa. Museum exhibition includes objects from the Stone Age, period and Slavs, and up to today. The historical museum has a rich collection of weapons, documents and personal items that testify to the revolutionary activities of the local population. The historical museum can boast a rich fund of ethnographic objects and artifacts related to the April uprising.
