 Cathedral "Assumption" is the emblem of Pazardzhik. The church is an imposing building with unique architecture built of pink Rhyolite. The temple was founded in 1836 and a pseudo-basilica with three entrances. Belief is that the dimensions of the temple because of inventive mind of Bulgarian Christians. At the time that the church was built by Ottoman rulers allowed the construction of the church, provided that it is not larger than a mosque. Turkish mayor allowed the Bulgarians to build a church as big as a cowhide. Then condition inventive Christians cut into thin strips the skin of an ox and as outlined in the construction site of the temple. After the agreement between the ruler and the Bulgarians were observed, the Turkish ruler is moved by the cunning of the Bulgarians and has created no obstacles to building a dream temple. Cathedral is one of the most important monuments created during the Bulgarian Revival. T it the largest church preserved from this period. Cathedral "Assumption" is very famous for its remarkable wood-carved iconostasis made of walnut, which is under UNESCO protection. It is the work of several prominent artists, graduates of Debar school. For the production of valuable iconostasis of prominent figures was necessary for a longer period of time is completed after several years of hard work. The temple is famous for its remarkable murals, here you can see the images of St. Ivan Rilski, St. Evtimiy, St. Boris and others. . The church has a unique collection of icons with images of Jesus Christ, St. Demetrius, St. George and others. The most beautiful and one of the most treasured icons is that of St. Cyril and Methodius, created in 1860 by Stanislav Dospevski.
