In the eastern part of the Rhodope Mountains near the village Gugutka, Ivaylovgrad is a medieval fortress built in the 12th century called Byalgrad. According to legend, here lived a rich Turkish feudal lord, it is one of the best preserved fortresses today. The fortification walls are in excellent condition built of white limestone high up to 8 m. Thick 2m. According to archaeologists, the construction of the fortress is rare for this region, as in some places and double masonry walls.
Nowadays it remained preserved the main tower of the palace. The tower was used as a prison and refuge after a number of military battles. In the courtyard on the east side there are remains in the ground of a small church, which has stood no more than two meters above the ground, traditionally during the Ottoman rule.
Touching to this mystical fortress, you can feel the spirit of the past.
