 Late Ancient medieval fortress Maiden Tower is located in the valley of the Mesta river in the Pirin part - this is one of the most picturesque and narrow stretches of Lily ravine. Most likely it was built in the second-third century. Then it was abandoned and restored again in the XII century. Its name derived from tradition. According to him, the fortress was built by sharpening this edge sister of Tsar Ivan Shishman. There's a legend that King Shishman was married to her sister Mara Murad I - Turkish sultan, as erroneously hoped that this will stop the Turkish invasion. After 10 years spent in the harem of the Sultan, Mara refused to forget their roots and to change their faith.
