House Sava Filaretov - Jeravna

The remaining native house of the Bulgarian revival teacher and educator Filaretov Sava, a monument of culture, the exposition "History of Zheravna" the History Museum of Kotel. The architecture of the house is an authentic and interior design. Impressive is house chapel and interior decoration of the house which is a complex of Renaissance carving laid in different plots in the colonnade, doors and roof of the building.
Filaretov Sava was born in 1825 and was highly educated for his time. He studied at the Greek school in Istanbul, graduated from Odessa High School (1849-1852), the later and Moscow University. At the beginning of the Crimean War (1853-1856) Filaretov compiled and published an original Bulgarian pocket dictionary with phrasebook designed for Russian soldiers engaged in hostilities against the Turks.
Having graduated Moscow University in 1857, Filaretov returned to Bulgaria and taught at created by Ivan Denkoglu school in Sofia as it entered the modern European model of teaching. With Filaretov was discovered and the first school for girls in Bulgaria.
As a prominent politician and activist of the struggle for religious freedom and independence, actively collaborated with various Bulgarian and Russian magazines and newspapers, Sava Filaretov is forced by the Ottoman authorities to leave Sofia. So in 1861 he went to Russia. He died in Cairo in 1863 of tuberculosis.
The museum exhibition "History of Zheravna" is on the second floor of the house "Sava Filaretov" and store materials for the history of Zheravna and activities of known Zheravna - Sava Filaretov Dr. Vassil Sokolski, Rayno Popovich, Vasil Stoyanov, Todor Ikonomov.
