House with the Monkey is one of the most famous houses not only in Veliko Tarnovo, but also in Bulgaria. It was built by master Nikola Ficheto for 1894 on behalf of merchant Nicholas Koyuv Tarnovo. So called because just above the main entrance has a small sculpture of a seated monkey. This motif is common in the Bulgarian lands and believes that the idea of Kolyo Ficheto. Built in typical Renaissance style in the central part of Veliko Tarnovo. Like most houses of traders and this is designed to satisfy all their needs. Known concept in that time was that a store has the most customers, if located on two streets. And here come the complex task of Kolyo Ficheto. He had to build a very narrow area, a house in which to gather store, warehouses and living quarters. The decision was narrow, but tall building on three floors on a plot facing 6 m and 15 m depth outside the house is decorated with protruding bricks, which is rare in our country. On the first floor where there are shops, entrances are arch-like shape and just above them is situated seated monkey. The second and third floor living quarters. The cellar is used to store the merchant. The upper floors are slightly protruding, with trapezoidal jetty, which is typical of Renaissance houses in the country.
