Melnik is the smallest town in Bulgaria, a place rich tradition and culture, nestled among massive white sandstone cliffs. It is believed that the initial appearance of the town has been a fortress, but in later turns into a town. The lands of present Melnik were inhabited by Thracians, and in the VI century Slavs settled that gave the name of the city.
Melnik comes from the word "mel" which means white clay. In addition to its beautiful scenery, rich history and unique architecture, nowadays the town wakes appetites of many tourists because of its infamous wine. The spirit and history of Melnik and the nature of the people lived in these lands are collected in the Historical museum. The museum gives us an opportunity to meet with the Bulgarians in Pirin Macedonia. City Museum is located in a building set back in 1815, better known as Pashova house, consisting of eight rooms. In each room are exposed objects, photographs and historical artifacts telling us about the habits, love and life of our ancestors lived in these lands during the Renaissance.
Historical Museum is part of a hundred national tourist sites. It is a branch of the historical museum in Sandanski. Occupation in the region of Melnik wine, winemakers here are particularly proud of the famous Melnik vine. This wine is a cult and tradition handed down from generation to generation for centuries nared.Sazdavaneto melnikchani of wine is an art and a matter of honor. Today the picturesque town is inhabited by 240 people, in addition to the local wine make a living with tobacco and tourism.
