Village Ovcharоvo in Bulgarian borders since 1855 Kulanliy old name, was changed to Koyunliyy Ovcharevo in 1906.
Menhir Ovcharоvo in the village is unique because it is the only Thracian monument in the world - saved from this type. In general appearance a carved conical column resembling a phallus. Its height is 2.10 m., And at its widest point is about one meter in diameter. The name "menhir" is a Breton origin, meaning men - stone and the second part of the word hir - high. Such facilities are called to the megaliths / word is of Greek origin - translates to golyamokamenni /. With these facilities the Bulgarian lands date back to the early Iron Age and are related to the Thracians. These include those that are cut directly into the rocks or built of stone with big dimensions and weight.
Menhir had religious significance. The shape of the phallus is associated with very popular among the Thracian cult of fertility and reviving nature.
In ancient megalithic monument near were performed different rituals and later held the fair of St. Demetrius. This tradition continued until about 50 years ago.
Another name for the menhirs in the village is called Ovcharovo Chuchul stone and recently attracting more tourists.
