National History Museum is housed in a former residence of the BCP Central Committee in Sofia suburb of Boyana (also called "House № 1"). As a state museum is a cultural institution established in 1973, the year in which the project architect. Al. Bars is built and the building of the residence. It was part of a special complex of 13 buildings located in the area, among which stand today the residence of the Bulgarian President, Imperial hotel for guests and others. The rich collection of the Museum of about 650,000 samples, estimated at more than $ 1 billion was transferred to a well guarded "House № 1" in 2000, after a comprehensive renovation of the building.
NMI has a very rich archaeological and historical records, exposures are extremely rich and interesting, arranged chronologically from the Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. Out are also numerous photographs, documents, weapons and everyday objects from the Renaissance to the most recent history. Are unique collections of jewelry, embroidery, household fabrics and patterns of church applied and fine arts. Very interesting is the permanent exhibition of unique pieces of gold, silver, bronze and marble, with age of the fourth millennium BC to the nineteenth century, these exhibits were arrested by officers of the Customs Agency at our borders in an attempt to be exported abroad.
