National Historical and Architectural Reserve Madara
Accomodations
Madara Rider is a unique historical and architectural monument, because of its importance is included in the UNESCO list. Located in Shumen region, near the village of Madara, and a composition of four figures carved on the steep cliff above the village: a rider with his horse, lion, pierced by the spear of the rider and the dog next horse. An important part of the composition and inscriptions are in Greek. The relief is dated to the beginning of VIII century, it is believed that it depicts Khan Tervel.
That is not a Thracian horseman or Byzantine, Proto and, judging by the shape of the saddle and stirrup as well as the clothing of the rider. Three-dimensional image is very realistic and is not typical of European art from this period. It is known that the Bulgars were very attached to their horses, their flag was the ponytail. Horses and riders were depicted on metal and ceramic containers are painted ceramic tiles and other objects in the Middle Ages. Madara Horseman is present in the SIP list with 100 national tourist sites.
