One of the symbols of the city of Pleven Chapel Mausoleum "St. George", located in the central part of the city. The Chapel was built in 1903 by the most famous ours architects, sculptors and artists of the 20th century. The mausoleum was built only with the help of patriotic people, representatives of the committee Tsar Liberator Alexander II.
In the basement are located the remains of soldiers killed in the Battle of Pleven. Their bones were moved here from the common grave and are located in three separate coffin. Chapel Mausoleum "St. George" is known for its unique design. Upon entering the museum, the impression will make the work of the famous sculptor Zheko Spiridonov. Above the threshold of the temple lies a unique sculpture of St. George. Interestingly in this sculpture is extraordinary author approach that can be seen only under a certain angle. On top of the dragon is placed Turkish religious symbol - Crescent and the spear of the saint Christian symbol - the cross.
Here you can enjoy the beautiful murals, custom icons and unique iconostasis, which received a gold medal at the World's Fair, even before he was placed in the chapel. Chapel Mausoleum "St. George" is one of the few places in Bulgaria where you can see images of Russian saint Alexander Nevsky and the image of St. George is not on a horse and riding a dragon. In addition to a beautiful interior, the mausoleum is known for its good acoustics for which often hosts concerts of chamber. Despite its status as a chapel, church services here are very rare, only four times a year. The doors of the chapel were opened to the public year-round, and admission is free.
