The name of the village comes from herds monk seals by species inhabiting the area. An interesting fact about the area is the presence of the first oil field in Bulgaria. In 1954 there began industrial production of oil and gas. You can see the old drilling for oil near the village, which have become a tourist attraction. Along with oil wells draw and sulfuric mineral water, which is poured directly into marine waters and is extremely useful for people with kidney problems and neuralgia.
