Stara Zagora zoo is one of the - old and rich in species in Bulgaria. If you want a day in nature, surrounded by exotic fauna, it is the right place you. Zoo in Stara Zagora was established back in 1957. Located within the picturesque park "Holy Spring", it occupies an area of 70 acres. The first inhabitant of the zoo was fallow deer caught by the military in 1956 in a wooded area near Yambol. After the military donated the beautiful forest animals of the municipal enterprise "Parks and gardens" city folk Council decided to launch a zoo. The first place was the garden of the existing site then badminton. One year later - for the needs of the zoo is separated and meadow area about 4 acres. The following residents of the park were two bears - Dimitrinka and Ivanka captured in the Shipka mountain by local hunters who decided to donate them to the zoo in Stara Zagora. Director of the Sofia Zoo donates his next new park residents - lion and a llama. By early 1960 the representatives of the fauna in the zoo are more than 40 animals. The current zoo was built in the early 70s when he built the first cell - the bears. Following cell deer, monkeys, birds of prey and otters. Today, the park has over 400 inhabitants - are 80 species of mammals, amphibians and birds living here. You can see species from almost all continents - brown bear, roe deer, red deer, wolf, fox, lynx in Europe, strong and tiger of Asia, raccoon of North America, South American jaguar and the llama, ostrich and lion from Africa, parrots and emu from Australia. Stara Zagora zoo is a public municipal ownership and maintenance of the municipality.
