Thracian sanctuary "Eagle Rocks" - Ardino

Three kilometers south of Ardino in the "Eagle Rocks" is a remarkable monument of the ancient Thracian culture in high inaccessible cliffs in the western part up to 25 m height were hewn rock about a hundred niches. Cemeteries are trapezoidal shapes and sizes, reaching a height of 70 cm shir.30 cm depth is about 34 cm, most are carved niches in the west end, 55 in number. They are randomly placed in solid rock, exposed to weather some of them have begun to deteriorate. Some scientists believe that the Thracian sanctuary dates back to the first millennium BC, the time of Odrissi, there were engaged in religious rituals, they found charred fragments of ceramic warrant archaeologists to believe that the cult niches were placed containers of flammable liquids at celebrations. According to other assumptions are used as tomb-stone urns which is placed the ashes of the dead under the rocks are found traces of altars and ancient burial facilities. Unique, Thracian sanctuary "Eagle Rocks" was declared a cultural monument and is visited by many tourists. There leads asphalt, though narrow road, there are trail markings.
