"Red Church" about Perushtitca

Two kilometers from Perushtitca nestled in the foothills of the Rhodope temple Virgin Mary. It is called Red Church because its construction was used pink mortar and Roman bricks. The church is in the style of European early Christian architecture, and is also regarded as one of the oldest churches in Bulgaria. Not known period in which the church was built, but there are suggestions that it happened at the beginning of the V century. The building was originally rotunda, which was built on a Thracian sanctuary, then became a church. Temple Virgin Mary was circular, with two lanes and was used as a place of worship. Over the centuries, several times it was destroyed again upgraded. Mestpolozhenieto the church is not accidental - it is close to the Byzantine city Philipopol or today's Plovdiv and it major roads from Constantinople to Western Europe and from Thrace to the Aegean Sea.
